Overview

Bespoke WordPress plugin that centralises small, cross-cutting platform behaviours for Avon and Somerset Police sites. Features are toggled on or off via wp-config.php — no admin screens, no per-site plugin settings.

Installed as a Composer dependency and activated like any other plugin. Each capability is registered in asp-wp-core.php and loaded only when enabled through ASP_CORE_FEATURES.

Features

clean_up	false	Tidies front-end WordPress output (head cleanup, default block/global styles, markup tweaks). Intended for sites using Frontend for styling
clone_page	true	Adds a Clone row action on Pages
page_excerpt	true	Enables the native excerpt box on pages and prevents auto-generated excerpts

Public helper: asp_core_feature_enabled( string $feature ): bool.

WordPress 6.9+ recommended (for full clean_up block and global style handling)
PHP 8.2+
Composer (when installed as a dependency)

Installation

Via Composer (recommended):

Include the VCS repository if required, then:

composer update policedigitalservices/asp-wp-core

Activate WP Core in WordPress admin (or your project’s active plugin list), then configure ASP_CORE_FEATURES in wp-config.php.

Any feature omitted from the array uses its built-in default. Set a feature to false to disable it explicitly.
